At Horn Park, we are passionate about books and inspiring a love of reading. This week we have had a week-long programme of festivities in honour of World Book Day. On Monday we welcomed children’s author Chris Callaghan, who met the whole school and discussed his book, ‘The Great Chocoplot’ and his life as an author. He was an inspirational speaker and role model for our budding readers and writers. On Thursday children were invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book which was a great opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the world of literature and to discuss their reading experiences. https://www.worldbookday.com/ideas/dressing-up-gallery/
Other activities during the week included a book review competition with prizes, a special book sharing assembly led by the teachers, classes joining for joint reads, not to mention our usual Stay and Read sessions. All children received their World Book Day book token to put towards a new book. Later in March there will also be a book fair where children can spend their vouchers, browse and buy books that capture their interest.
